Always good food and good service. Sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed the sun. I highly recommend this place.

What a gem! I didn't expect to find really good Chinese food in a little suburb, but the food was great. I highly recommend the won ton soup and the hot and spicy eggplant. The staff are very friendly as well.

I used to not like this place as a kid because I never liked Asian vegetables. When I grew up I learned I can ask for customization. Ever since I really enjoy coming here. The food is pretty good and the staff is great! I love developing relationships with people and this place is great for that. The owners know me and my history which really makes this place feel special.

We like Chinese Food and we like this restaurant. The service is excellent, the food good and we have never been disappointed with anything we have ordered and we eat here at least every 6 weeks. We have never experienced the food described in the out reviews and I am surprised. Their Moo Shu Pork is very good and we are fans of cashew chicken. We seldom order things that are fried or breaded so maybe that is the differnce in our experiences.

Food is great, fresh and hot. This is original Chinese food, not Americanised. Place is small but worth the visit. They have the best fried pork I have ever had. Who ever says the food is bad because they only eat Chinese mall food.

I believe my favorite Chinese restaurant is now under new ownership/management. I am used to being seated in short order by the friendly, helpful people at Essence, regardless of how busy they were. I stopped by tonight with my family (wife and nine year old), and there were lots of empty tables, all needing clearing. The new staff (still friendly, for what its worth) said they were clearing tables right then and would have us seated. Five minutes later they mentioned to someone else that they were short handed. Maybe so, but the woman clearing tables looked as though she'd never cleared tables before... I was slightly amused to watch her gingerly stack dishes l on one table, stop, walk to another table, dab at it with a rag and start stacking dishes there, walk off... Anyway, another family came in and were told that the tables wee being cleaned "as we speak"... I looked in the dining room and uh, well, where did the woman go? There were a couple decent dish stacks on a couple tables (many tables to go though). Table clearing woman reappeared, still looking confused about what to do, with a cell phone squeezed between her shoulder and her ear, still fanning tables here and there. In case there is confusion, I'm not an egotist, I only required ONE table. After twenty five minutes, we left. I hope the next family was seated pretty soon thereafter. I'm almost done my dinner somewhere else and would hate for the other family to turn into the Donner party. I hope this was a hiccup for them. But I also fear for a change in the cuisine along with a change on the staff. I suppose I'll have to find out some other time... Since no food, no stars. I'll reserve judgment there.

Their service is beyond exceptional. They bring your food fast, attend to your desires and make you feel like an overall valued customer. Their food is also very tasty. The only reason I am giving them a four instead of a five star is because of their atmosphere. The way their dining room is set up and decorated is very poor and lacks an sense of ambiance and appeal to it. Besides that, go here. You'll find good food, good service and unbelievable prices. My girl and I made out stuffed with a to-go-box for under $20 for both of us.

We used our restaurant.com coupon and had way to much to eat. We brought a bunch home. We had four different dishes; garlicky shrimp and scallop; tien fu chicken; cashew chicken and crispy egg plant. Each dish was tasteful and different. No mass production here. Our only complaint was that we, got our first three dishes, then the egg plant arrived and finally the rice arrived. We were about finished when it finally arrived. But we have plenty for leftovers and the servers were very pleasant.

My husband and I have lunch at Essence at least a couple times a month. The Kung Pao has a rich, flavorful sauce and service is always fast and friendly. Soup is always hot and tasty too. We've noticed the food tends to be better eaten there rather than for take out; but, maybe that is just the nature of Chinese food? The place isn't fancy or big, but the food is consistently good and priced lower than other similar Chinese restaurants. It's a family owned business with a hard-working server. Try them for lunch!

Well... Good food. Just service needs to be better. They need to hire more staff that's all.

The staff is attentive and friendly, though service can be a bit slow. The portions are generous. The steamed potstickers are delicious. The sweet and sour chicken was crispy and not over sauced.

I've been here a few times, and my parents go here very often. We've always thought it was good (and have continued to come back). The food is usually consistent and in my opinion good. That said, it's not without its issues. The interior is nothing special, and is actually pretty bad. It's plain, but in the evening the setting sun REALLY heats the place up and in the first few tables will leave you blinded by the sun. Also, they need more servers. They try, but let's face it, with even three tables the one person handling the front of the restaurant CAN'T do an adequate job. Our last trip some of the food was off a bit. The General Tsaos was like sugary sweet, waaaaay too sweet. It may have been our fault, as one member of our party started making off the wall comments about how spicy we did/didn't want dishes. What that means is that they, trying to accommodate, probably really changed how they normally cook. So, I can't fairly rate this most recent trip. I'll give them another go and hope that they're as good as they have been in the past.

So I have eaten at many Chinese restaurants and this place hangs with the best of them. Granted I only tried one plate but ever so lovely wife also loved what she got. It was cheap, it was fast and it was delicious. You know we will be back again.

We ordered pork fried rice, general tso's chicken, chicken and seafood combo and chicken lo mein entrees. A few different entrees tasted like they were cooked in beef bouillon and none of them were beef. The chicken and seafood combo was loaded with celery and onion with the odd pea and carrot here and there. If you like celery and onion, you might like that entree. I picked out the meat and nibbled on that but the texture was kinda...slimy? The lo mein, although unusually dark, was the only thing I could tolerate. General Tso's was also unusually dark, it appeared burnt although didn't taste it; maybe they just needed to change their fry oil? I'm not sure if I couldn't get around the dark look of it or if I truly didn't care for their batter/cook method. Also ordered crab puffs and the won ton wrappers tasted doughy and undercooked and there was barely any filling inside, they went to the trash immediately. I almost wonder if they used egg rolls wrappers and not won ton wrappers? Idk, they weren't right though! I've given 2 stars because this place came highly recommended and maybe they were having an off night. If I ever go back, I'll update my review. After this experience I was told to try their lemon or sweet n sour chicken so we'll see!

A very good Chinese place is very hard to find. Have eaten here a couple of times... The owner is absolutely willing to please. The wait staff has been also great! Great help in creating a dish that meets your wants... And they also deliver! I am not just stuck with pizza any longer. I strongly recommend that you give this place a try!!

The BEST Chinese Food ever! Family owned. The couple has worked at the restaurant since they opened. Obvious pride on the food preparation, serving and flavor. Customer service and care. Politeness and kindness from owner and severs. Magestically delicious combinations of flavors that dance in unison at each bite. They nailed it! I'm in love with this place! I'm hard to please. It's a quaint neighborhood restaurant in West Linn... it's sooo worth the drive! Mongolian beef, yum! Amazing Hot and sour soup!

Best Chinese food I've ever had how many places Chinese cooking all the food has different flavors and they make their own fried pork. Highly recommend this restaurant, you will not find a better place here in Oregon.

Wow!! What fabulous and authentic food. Trust me. We're Asian and known rice snobs as well as like our food authentic, not "Americanized" like strawberry jello mixed with ketchup for the sweet and sour sauce at most standard Chinese places. This place recommends and offers off menu items to die for! The crispy eggplant was incredible! The best I have ever had and my new favorite dish. The rice was not your standard dried flakes but moist and flavorful. Fung Chow (also off menu) another to die for item, with broad and rice noodles mixed with fresh yummy veggies and your choice of meat. Kung Pao...another fabulous dish! Portions so huge, the five us us couldn't finish them and were more than happy to take it home. The wait staff is quick and friendly as well as attentive. No more looking for a good Chinese place in Portland for us! Highly recommended!!!!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
